Benson Arizona

We arrived here at the Escapee’s Saguaro Co-Op Park on New Years Eve. The office was closed when we pulled in but they had some information on what sites to go to if they were closed. We quickly got set up and headed over to the club house to see about tickets for the New Years Eve Party.

At the club house we were able to buy tickets and reserve our seats. They were going to have a very popular band from Tucson perform. After getting the tickets we went into town to buy some drinks for the night. I bought a bottle of wine and Max bought a bottle of Skinny Girl Cosmopolitan.

The band was very good and there was plenty of snacks. We visited with the people at our table and danced the night away. It was a fun night and a good start to a new year.

On Sunday, Max caught up the year end financial stuff while I worked on getting the oil off of the truck and RV that we picked up coming through Texas. We were in a construction zone and they were spraying oil on the road. It went all over the truck and rv. It took me all day to get it off the truck and Monday morning to get it off the RV. After washing the truck I decided to wash the rv another day. I wanted to go play.

Monday night we went to the club house and played cards and learned of a hike that was being set up for Tuesday morning. We thought it would be a good chance to hike in the dessert and absorb this sunny 75 degree weather.

We met at 9:00am with about 11 other people and traveled to the Kartchner Caverns State Park. There was a geocache at an old copper mine that we wanted to get to. It was about an 8 mile round trip hike. Here are a few pictures from the trail.

We ended up at elevation 5984ft. With a toll ascent of about 1240 feet. Our final destination was a geocache.

We found the cache and enjoyed our packed lunches and got ready for the return trip. We really had a good time hiking with the fellow escapees. We returned home exhausted but still had enough time to make it to the 4:00pm Happy Hour at the club house. We ended the night playing cards until 10:00pm and then watched a little television before calling it a night.

This is a very active Co-Op park and it is so far, our favorite. We still need to see the ones in California and plan to stay at them this summer. We have our name on the waiting list here for a lease but it still may take 5 to 7 years.

Wednesday I plan on washing the rv and work on an issue with our little cargo trailer. The we will make happy hour and play cards again tonight. We have done most of the touristy things last year when we were here and since we leave on Friday we just want to hang at the park as much as we can. Unless we find out about some other event happening. Here your plans must be in  Jell-O because there is so much to do and you might change your plans at any moment.

Enjoy Your Day!

Great post! We will have to check out this park. It sounds like a place we would really like.
