Relaxing, Getting Ready For Some Football

We are still at the the Thousand Trails Resort in Lakehills Texas. The last two weeks have really been un-eventful. It has been so hot here we have just been staying inside or lazing around the pool. Max has spent several afternoons and evenings at the clubhouse working on jigsaw puzzles. I have been watching movies and sports on TV. Not real exciting stuff but at least we are relaxing. Our highlights this past week has been seeing a few scorpions and the Ice Cream socials at the clubhouse.

I think we have decided that Gate Guarding is not going to work out for us. There are several reasons that by any one of them we could have overcome but by having all of them it just did not make sense for us.

For us, our original goal was to just make a few thousand extra dollars to help with diesel and traveling expenses for next summer. We could clear about $3000 a month by gate guarding plus the savings from not going anywhere. We figured we would do it for as long as we could stand it. But with the potential risk and wear and tear on the rig we figured it may cost us more than what we would make. If I had a smaller rig, that did not need 50 amps and we were assigned to a safer location we would do it.

Our plans now are to head back to Arizona next week to get the motorcycle. We plan on staying up around Cottonwood Az for the fall and work our way back to Palm Springs by Christmas. Hopefully the desert starts getting a little cooler later in September. We will keep an eye out for any seasonal opportunities that may come up.

It is football season and I am ready to watch some games. I am a huge Chiefs fan and I do not have high expectations for my team this year (again!). As long as they beat the Raiders twice, and that Manning fella over in Denver twice I would be real happy. Not going to hold my breath though.

We went to Walmart to get a few groceries and when we got back to the campground the kids could not wait to see what I had bought them!

Wow - look at all those deer! We don't think we could gate-guard either.

Sounds like a good decision on the gate guarding. We are back in SA so if you want to get together for dinner before you leave. Holler.

We were thinking of gate guarding if we need to build up cash reserves, but..lots of 'cons' to it.
The deer are hilarious! Hope you had something for them :)

Steve didn't think gate guarding was something we'd like. You have just reinforced it!
