Two Very Different Ways Of Playing In The Sand

Last week we spent 4 nights at Doheny State Beach Campground located at Dana Point, Ca. It is a very nice beach front campground that is literally steps away from the water. Most of the interior sites are too small to put our 33 foot motorhome into, luckily between the reservation system and Campgroundphotos.com we were able to make sure we reserved a site where we would fit.

There are no hook ups here, so we used the generator as needed. I must say that their generator hours are a little strict from what we are used to. Here no generators after 8:00pm which was ok but not being able to turn them on until 10:00am was tough on me since I like having my coffee ready at 6:30am. I had to boil water then pour it through the coffee pot manually. An 8:00 am generator time would have been nice.  Still not a bad trade off to have a beach front site.

We spent our days just reading, walking the beach and just being campers for a change.  Max was able to spot some dolphins swimming up the coast, and we had an endless show of the Pelicans dive bombing into the water to get a fish, all from our front yard. I think we will make this a yearly trip after we get done each season of camp hosting.

We left late Thursday night to get out of the rain storm that was forecasted. We could see the clouds coming our way and we were concerned that they were forecasting 12 to 16 foot swells that night and at high tide I was afraid that the small berm in front of us would get swallowed up. Since we are only an hour and a half away from our lot at Jojoba we pulled out and got back to Jojoba around 11:00pm.

Back at Jojoba we are getting ready to play in the sand in a little bit different way. Our landscaping project is our next adventure. On our lot we have a whole bunch of these ugly red 12 inch square pavers that are not level or laid down properly. We are going to be replacing them with different pavers. There is also a cinder block retaining wall that is not straight or level and needs to be redone.

Our goal is to use the cinder block wall but level it, change its direction and then cover it up so we do not see them when we are finished. Our first job was to level and lengthen the wall.

Next was to remove the 330 pavers and stack them on skids. Even moving the pavers Max looks “Festive”

With the pavers removed and the wall almost done, we just need to remove a few more inches of topsoil before we bring the sand in.

We may get some rain delays this week, but hopefully we can get the sand screeded down and can begin laying down the new pavers by Saturday. After selling the house I thought we would be done with yard work, but now that we have this home base, we want to get the landscaping the way we want so we can just relax and enjoy the park while we are here.

Christmas is coming soon and our friends Rayn and JJ are coming down to visit for a week, then we are going to take off with them and bounce around in the desert with stop overs at Anza Borrego State park, Joshua Tree National park and then hit Quartzsite Az for the annual RV show. Who knows where we will end up, but that is the point isn’t  it!

Enjoy Your Day!!

Glad that Max didn't do all the heavy lifting :) Your 'yard' will look great when you're done!

All I can think about is bending over 330 times! No wait...make that 660 times! Good thing you're both young and have strong backs. Hope you have it all done so you can enjoy it during Christmas.
