What Have We Gotten Ourselves Into Now!

On our last trip back to Aguanga a few weeks ago, we picked up a new smoker to play with during the summer.

It is an electric smoker which I like, because I do not have to attend to the charcoal. I can put the meat on it and forget it.

We could not wait to try it out, so we immediately put together a beginning of the season cookout with our co-workers. Our boss bought some Tri-Tip and we bought some pork loin. After using various rubs and an injectable marinade, lets just say that I was in meat heaven!

I did not get a picture of the Tri-Tip or Pork Loin, but the next day, Max and I smoked a couple of Cornish Hens. They turned out perfect.

Hmmm, I am suppose to lose weight this summer……

All the camp host are trained up for the most part and are doing a great job. The great thing about our hosts this year is that everyone seems to click and work together really well. That is a perfect formula for making lifelong friends and having a great work experience.

Just when things seem to be going really well, changes happen. We had a site manager on the mountain leave for other opportunities. Max and I was asked if we wanted to take the position. Part of me was no, I have had enough of management, but the other part of me was looking at the challenge. So in the traditional Dave and Maxine fashion, we jumped in with both feet! ( Picture Maxine slowly shaking her head…)

So starting Yesterday, we are managing four campgrounds, five group camps, a horse equestrian camp and a day use fishing lake, and an amphitheater. Ok, I think I will lose weight after all!

Our campgrounds are located on the other side of the mountain from Big Bear lake. We are very close to San Gorgonio mountain and we are still at an elevation of 7000 feet. We will be based at the Barton Flats campground. So I am not sure just what we have gotten ourselves into. We are scrambling to figure it out and to get our rig moved over next week.

It will be sad to leave the great couples that we would have worked with this year. But I have a feeling we will at least get to go on adventures with them on our days off. Besides, maybe next year I can steal them away for our area…..

Enjoy Your Day!
